Coach Errica
Hi!! I’m Coach Errica and also the Co-Owner of Panhandle Hurricanes. I was born and raised in Tidewater, Virginia where I met my husband, Coach Andy. I was a military spouse for 20 years and that military journey is what brought us to Panama City Beach, FL.
I’m not really sure where to start without writing a book. My love of cheer started in 5th grade. There was a local recreation cheer program and I wanted so badly to be a part of that. The season started and tryouts for their Allstar team opened up. (Allstar cheer in the early 90s looked nothing like it does today!) I tried out, knowing I probably didn’t have a chance at making the team with so little experience, but to my surprise I made the team that season! Fun fact - I’m still friends on Facebook with my very first ever cheer coach. Being a part of that team sparked my love for this sport and is the reason I still have such a passion for cheer today.
Panhandle Hurricanes was born after Hurricane Michael came through the Panhandle of Florida and devastated our local area. We had so many athletes that wanted more than recreation cheer but also were priced out of other programs. After seeing the resiliency of our local athletes that I coached and their need for something more; I knew what to do and knew no other name would do. So we became Panhandle Hurricanes. Our colors - teal, silver, and black - are an ode to my mother’s cheer program that she started on her own when I was a teen. We never had a fancy gym or practice areas; we practiced in the grass at a local elementary school. What we did have was passion, love for the sport, and drive.
While competition cheer looks very different than it did when I first fell in love with the sport, my love and passion remains the same. I have coached recreation cheer, a dance team, high school cheer, and allstar cheer since I was 17 years old. Coaching cheer has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Things look a little different for our Hurricanes these days with a larger upgraded training facility purchased in September 2024. But my “WHY” will always look the same. I coach because I love cheer. I love watching “AHA” moments happen right in front of me. I love seeing athletes overcome fear to accomplish their goals. I love the competitive side of cheer. I love watching athletes become teammates, then friends, and then family. I love watching athletes succeed and realize that are stronger and more powerful than they ever gave themselves credit for. This “little gym that could” is proving to everyone that the size of the gym isn’t what matters. It’s the passion, the drive, the grit, and the love that lies within the walls. I can’t wait to watch what these Hurricanes of ours accomplish this season and hope all of you will cheer these local athletes on , in all aspects of their lives. It takes a village and we are just a small part of that village. Thank you for letting us be your Hurricanes village.
